#dignitynotdetention: work in solidarity with asylum seekers

I am one of the founders (with Professor Kate Swanson and attorney Jennifer Gonzalez) of Detainee Allies, a grassroots humanitarian / advocacy group working to offer humanitarian support and amplify the voices of  asylum-seeking refugees held in detention by ICE.

Our community partners (past and present) include Freedom for Immigrants, Alliance San Diego, Solace of San Diego, Pen Connection of Santa Barbara, CABarrio Logan College Institute, Congregation Dor Hadash, Sociologists for Women in Society,  and faculty and student groups at universities nationwide, including UCI, UCSD, USC, Georgia Tech, Utah Valley University, and SUNY Binghamton.

Media coverage of our work includes the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, CBC, and Chronicle of Higher Education.

I will be speaking on our work at the Archives of Migration symposium at UC Berkeley, December 9 – 10, 2019, and the annual convention of Sociologists for Women in Society in San Diego in January 2020.
